Life is a constant battle
of who you are and
who you want to be.
Others stand before you
claiming their definition
of yourself, of how they
think you should be, or feel.
They never expect the fire
that escapes from your lips,
nor the cold silence that
you'd rather choose to keep.
It's ourselves against the world,
against a double-sided mirror
constantly lying to our faces.
We want to believe them,
but we choose not to
because the world cannot
define us, nor we the world.
We define ourselves, can't be
anything else but ourselves,
and nothing else matters.
